Jacquard Loom Embroidered Panel

This lovely 19th century Italian textile is one of a group of jacquard loom embroideries made in Perugia. The materials are cotton and linen, and the colours are limited to ivory background with the embroidery executed in a pale blue and a mid-blue, giving a subtle and elegant appearance. It has an intriguing design composed of horizontal rows of repeating animals, including deers, griffins or dragons and other quadrupeds, all very armorial. The feeling is very soft, subtle and decorative, and would make a lovely hanging.
