Fine Tekke Carpet

19th century Tekke carpets continue to appeal both to collectors and to those looking for a decorative carpet. This piece is a very nice example. It has soft wool with a velvety even pile. Finely knotted and in very good condition. The colours are soft and harmonious while the guls in the field are spaced elegantly. Note the main borders with the usual range of geometric ornamentation. The skirts at each end are also well-drawn.

Condition: Apart from one or two very small old repairs, this lovely carpet has survived in excellent original condition with the original kilim ends and selvages still intact.
