Afshar
A lovely old Afshar rug with a typical vase design. Large birds sit astride the flowers, the light blue of which contrast perfectly with the amazing deep indigo field. The four spandrels picked out in a soft red have more birds along with other random ornamentation, again the tone of the red against the blue is wonderful. The central rosette appears to be a large floral motif at first glance and then you see the alternating boteh that come together to make its form. If you had to pick a rug that has exactly the right amount of wear then I would say that this is it. The gentle wear articulates the design and speaks of its age. A very desirable and beautiful rug.
