Kurdish
A wonderful floppy rug with saturated dyes and a classic tribal look. I would attribute this to Darreh Gaz in the Khorassan district. The weave is unusual with 3-5 red wefts between every row of knots and a more common name for it might be Kordi Kurd. The central allover field is delightful and the colour of the motifs quite random. The multi coloured diamonds that encroach from the sides lack any symmetry and to me are an artistic expression of the weaver and makes this rug totally unique which can’t be said for many workshop pieces. The cold stars on the main border are flanked by lesser borders of white with a meandering line also typical of the region. Despite it’s issue which I detail below I think this to be a truly beautiful and fascinating rug.
