A 17th century crewelwork hanging
Embroidered with exotic birds amid acorns, honeysuckle, and stylised elaborately curling and twisted leaves growing from a tree with symmetrical serpentine branches, at the base of which lays a stag. The embroidery in worsted on a linen and cotton twill ground in a variety of stitches including stem, chain, bullion, buttonhole, satin, herringbone, French knots and speckling.
